Hi all,
I'm having a problem... I just reupgraded my system to windows 10 after a system crash, and having trouble with windows explorer.
When I go into one of my music folders, I can arrow through all the songs just fine. When I exit the window, and say go to the desktop, and come back to the music folder, I can't up and down through the songs... Anyone know what's going on? I thought it might be something in folder options, but I've tried everything.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks!
Which screen reader and version? Have you tried other readers?
The problem apparently fixed itself when I updated to the latest version of windows 10. lol I'm using Jaws 17 though.
I find that it works better when I view details, rather than large icons.
I find Windows10 itself, a royal pain. And, why force us to upgrade, when upgrades don't always work? Wayne had a board on Windows10, and I can't find it. Anyway, I think there's some valid concerns, and I still think there are, to this day.
Blessings,
Sarah
No one is forcing anyone to upgrade at this time. You can still stay with your antiquated operating system for another year or so, at least. I doubt they'll drop support of Win7 until 2018 or 2019. However, the people who upgrade now can send a lot of useful feedback to Microsoft, and their screen reader developers of choice so that they can get things ready for the holdouts who don't want to upgrade yet. As for why you should upgrade, everyone already knows that Microsoft's systems are full of holes. Don't you want to try to receive the latest upgrades just so that you can make sure as many of those security flaws as possible can be plugged?
I was one of those people who upgraded from windows 7 up to windows 10. A lot of folks told me that it's going to be a more difficult transition for me than it would've been if I upgraded from windows 8 to windows 10, but I'm happy to say that they were completely 100% wrong. It probably took me only a day or two to get windows 10 configured the way I want it. This includes deleting some of the more irrelevant start menu tiles that I had no use for. Were there accessibility issues? Definitely. Much more than there are now. there are still some accessibility issues today too, but how will those be resolved if people don't upgrade to the latest versions and point them out to the mainstream developers as well as those who are working on optimizing the screen readers for the operating system?
I will add here too, Microsoft really is taking a active approach to accessibility in windows10. Narator is coming along quite nicely.
also, make sure that the preview pain is not enabled in win explorer it will hang screen readers. I can get it to hang both Jaws and NVDA.
